Where’s the Recession?

I heard there was a recession coming. I don’t believe it. Neither do a lot of our WebsitesForPrinters.com customers!

It’s so interesting to study human nature. A lot of times people and businesses will simply buckle down and jettison everything they see as non-essential to prepare for an economic downturn. That’s a valid response of course; however, I find it very interesting that people will often have an incorrect idea on what should be considered non-essential.

Often times it’s the website that’s seen as non-essential. Sometimes that may be true, as in the case of someone that has their own “homemade” website that actually does more harm than good. However, in most cases nothing could be further from the truth. I just finished visiting with someone wrapping up his WebsitesForPrinters.com 60-Day Live Trial program, and he “gets it.” He understands that while his competitors are scaling back to prepare for the downturn, he needs to push harder to be prepared to win his share of the market. There are going to be fewer dollars spent by consumers … he’s positioning himself to be in a position to attract those dwindling dollars. He mentioned more than once it was so easy to get started with a WebsitesForPrinters.com website, and that fact in itself is going to allow him to get a huge jump on any of his competitors that will also be preparing to compete for the dollars available in his market.

That’s what’s so exciting to me. He’s not the only customer that “gets it” … WebsitesForPrinters.com continues to grow because other printers are also wise enough to prepare for the hard times by increasing the vitality and viability of their website presence. Our crew is on mandatory overtime right now, and new employees are preparing to start their careers with WebsitesForPrinters.com. Exciting times indeed! But perhaps the most exciting and rewarding part of all of this opportunity in the middle of an economic downturn is knowing that we’re helping printers succeed, even when times are tough. Maybe it’s better to say this: We’re helping printers succeed especially when times are tough! I take pride in that, and so do my coworkers.

I hope the recession never gets here. But if it does let me know … our customers may have a hard time noticing!

Overwhelmed by Easter!

I have always loved Easter. It’s always been my favorite holiday. After all, how many people get put to death and live to tell about it?!?!?!!!

This year was different. Easter was so much more meaningful to me this year than it has ever been before. Why? I don’t know. Perhaps it’s a sign of me maturing in my understanding of what Jesus accomplished when he died for all of humanity. All I know is that my heart was overflowing with gratitude, thankfulness, and joy!

The highlights:

The first highlight was taking the kids to a presentation at church on Good Friday. (Unfortunately, my wife wasn’t able to go with that night.) It felt so wonderful to help get their heart pointed in the right direction for Easter Sunday.

The Easter Sunday service was wonderful. There was such a powerful atmosphere of worship. The music was great (which for me personally is always such an exciting part of worship), and there was a very powerful drama which reenacted the way things might have been at the time Jesus was crucified. The part of the drama that caught my attention was that much of it focused on a character that helped usher Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday then died as the events of that week unfolded. This character, Gideon, believed in Jesus. Then when Jesus died Gideon came back to life. This is one part of the Easter story that usually gets overlooked. Matthew 27: 51-53 (NIV) records the events that happened the moment Jesus died in this way:

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

If there was ever any doubt that something supernatural was underway, dead people walking around should have been a pretty good clue!

I keep trying to put myself into the political and social culture of that time. What would I have done on Palm Sunday? Good Friday? The dark Saturday before Easter Sunday?

One more powerful Easter experience. I ended up watching one of my favorite movies, The Miracle Maker, along with the kids. I absolutely love this movie! On first glance the puppetry / animation may make it seem like it’s just for kids…but it’s not. It’s message is true to the scriptures and the storyline is so well-written. Although I’ve watched the show many times before, this year I saw it with new eyes and learned more about what it would have been like to be in Jerusalem during the time of those events. It is truly a wonderful presentation!

The bottom line is that Easter Sunday 2008 is drawing to a close, and it was such a wonderful Easter season this year!

PrintOwners Posts Sent To Me…

Here are some interesting posts that were provided to me which show the feelings of some PrinterPresence subscribers. To be fair, PrinterPresence has loyal customers that support them, but it’s interesting (and sad, and funny!) to see customers that wish they weren’t with PrinterPresence!

The posts…

Is anyone using or have reference to offer on PrinterPresence?
I had stopped to see them at the Boston show and I liked the pitch.
Just looking for any pro/cons if you have them.
Thanks in advance!

They are based here in Lincoln and because they also own a competing print
shop, I went with Websites for Printers and have been very happy. I believe
the feature offerings are comparable and it is considerably cheaper. Mike
Stevens and his crew had us up and running in only a couple of days and have
always been very helpful.

Hope this helps.

I agree about the Nickel and Dime thing - their service is good - but every
little change is $$$ out of your pocket  - a lot more than I expected - and
I had to do a lot of work for them to convert to their web formats.

I am not in love with their “Front Page” options and would dearly love to
have a more exciting/interactive front page - not possible unless I spend
$$$$!

Their charges are NOT inexpensive, Especially for minor changes (this cost
was not evident in the beginning -!)
If I could go to the “Website for Printers” I would, but have lots of $$$
invested in the variable doc. system, and would have to redo this for the
Customer Portals I have established - also I don’t want to have to pay
another lump sum up front to move over (to get to what I have now!)
I have investigated with a web designer to replicate what PPresence has -
and it is too expensive because their system is quite sophisticated!

I would be interested to hear other users comments!

So I am stuck with them!

sincerely

Too Much Success!!!

I’m writing this post late at night. (Or is that early in the morning?) It’s theraputic because I need to unwind before going to sleep after a long day at work. Long days … that’s been the theme for the WebsitesForPrinters.com crew lately … that’s the result of us having more success than capacity! Here are some interesting observations:

  • Tomorrow we’ll present a job offer to a well-qualified candidate for Customer Service. If he accepts he’ll be a quick study.
  • We’re enjoying the luxury of being able to be very selective on identifying the prospects we want to work with. Everyone gets treated with respect of course, but we’re able to prioritize our calls and pursue only the prospects that are well-qualified.
  • Some of our loudest cheerleaders are referring prospects our way, and away from our competitors. Today I had a great visit with someone that was considering PagePath / MyOrderDesk, PrinterPresence, PageDNA and Four51 … until our customer (a former PrinterPresence customer) met up with him and told him to give us a look.
  • Speaking of PrinterPresence customers, there are five printers in the queue to leave PrinterPresence.com and move over to WebsitesForPrinters.com.

And speaking of switchers, another one switched late last week … and this time I learned even more about the way PrinterPresence treats their “customers” … and I use that definition loosely! :-)

This switcher contacted us and we gave him the standard Printer Presence Switcher promotion, but discovered that his URL did not display a PrinterPresence website; He insisted he had paid them the startup and was being charged monthly hosting charges. Sure enough, he faxed over the invoice to prove it … he had indeed paid his startup charges. He was also paying monthly charges … even though his website wasn’t live with PrinterPresence! He told us that PrinterPresence starts charging him after 60 days, even if the website isn’t live yet. Now that’s low … how in the world can they charge for a website service that doesn’t even exist?!? It’s no wonder their customers are beating a path to our door.

So back to “Too Much Success” … WebsitesForPrinters.com is looking for a few good employees: Customer Service, Programmers, Developers, Designers / Web Artists … the works! It’s truly exciting times here at WebsitesForPrinters.com!
